It is neither a fruit, nor a vegetable! You will be surprised by the fact that avocado is a berry, characteristic of the tropical zones, rich in precious nutritional properties and really creamy. The pulp, of a bright green, when is perfectly matured has a buttery consistency which make it perfect for tasty recipes and betray its high quantity of fats… don’t worry, they are the famous “good” fats!

For 100gr of avocado there are 15gr of fats, but they aren’t the bad fats, saturated, which threat the health and the shape. The so-called good fats in avocado are the linoleic acid fat and Omega3 which inhibit and keep the cholesterol controlled, a great help for the circulatory system and the heart. It is good to remember that the high calorie count doesn’t make it light, so, it is better to not exceed with the portions!

Avocado is really good, also to get tanned!

Proteins and fats are abundant, but it is rich also in vitamins, in particular, A, D, E, K and the B group, mineral salts and fibres. The high content of antioxidants help to fight free radicals and to maintain skin and tissues young and solid.

Did you know that avocado is good to get tanned as well? An avocado salad enhance by fourteen times the assimilation of beta-carotene found in the carrots helping to obtain a perfect, long-lasting and rapid tan!

How to eat it

If you have never approached to avocado because you have any idea of how to open and clean it, it is high time to buy it; using it in cooking is easy, giving room to creative pairings and various uses. Bring an avocado using a towel, cut it on the long side with a sharp knife; turn the two sides of the fruit with the hands, to divide them easily. To remove the core uses a spoon if the pulp is matured or skewers it with a knife (pay attention, it is slick!). To remove the pulp it is necessary to pass a spoon between the buttery pulp and the hard peel.

The pulp is creamy, soft and slightly sweet, for this reason it is perfect to substitute fats in biscuits and desserts, but also with savoury ingredients. Try it with smoked salmon, raw ham or with fried eggs seasoned with salt and pepper, the contrast sweet-savoury do justice to this incredible fruit.

In the sweet version you can use it to replace butter in soft cakes and biscuits but also to obtain creams and soft components. The perfect marriage is with dark chocolate, it can perfectly substitute cream and egg whites in mousses, in “semifreddo”, creams and puddings.

Avocado and veg diet

For its consistency it is perfect to substitute butter, cream and milk in the recipes. For this reason it is a perfect ingredient for the vegan and healthy diets. It can completely replace butter in cakes, yogurt in milkshakes, cheese and cream in icing and fillings. Cheesecakes and ice creams will be green and delicious, also in the vegan version!
