Room for beers paired with your dessert

Traditionally, after a meal with several dishes, there’s a dessert. Italian cuisine is surprisingly rich in dry confectionery, soft desserts, chocolate cakes and fruit pie. The trend is to tap a bottle of Passito wine or a sweet Spumante to pair these delicacies.
Why don’t you try beer, at least for one time? For each dessert there is a possible pairing.

When the elements that characterize the drink and the dish mix up, the sensation that they give can be enhanced or weakened, according to the cases. For instance, the sweetness of the malt clashes with the sweetness of food, reducing the final sensation perceived, whereas the bitter of the hop balance the impact of a fat food.

Beer can be paired with desserts in general, but, trust us, it is perfect with chocolate.

See for yourself! Follow our advices!

Dessert beers: creamy desserts

Creamy desserts as tiramisu or profiterole are perfect if paired with an aged beer as the Barley Wine, a trappist slightly bitter but with a high alcoholic volume and an intense Eisbock.

Dessert beer: fruit desserts

It is better to pair fruit tarts or pies with a light white beer or a lambic, kriek or framboise that balance and divinely pair this type of desserts without cover its taste, more delicate than the chocolate taste.

Dessert beers: chocolate

To pair chocolate desserts it is better to choose beers with at least the 6% of alcohol and take into consideration the percentage of sugar in the chocolate: the more it is high, the more the beer would be aromatic.
If you have rich and structured desserts like mousse or pies without flour, the ideal pairing is a good Imperial Stout and Porter made of dark and toasted malt or chocolate malt or with Barley Wine and other beers aged in barrel.
To reduce the excessive sweetness it is better to pair hopped beers like a double IPA, that contribute to balance the taste.
If you don’t want to make an expected choice, we advice you fruity beers with a caramel aftertaste, such as the Belgian strong ales or the Doppelbock beers.
