Monti Lessini DOC

DOC wines Monti Lessini are produced in the Municipalities of Vestenanova, San Giovanni Ilarione, Montecchia di Crosara, Roncà, Cazzano di Tramigna, Tregnago and Badia Calavena in the province of Verona, and in the municipalities of Arzignano, Castelgomberto, Chiampo, Brogliano, Gambugliano, Trissino, Cornedo, Costabissara, Gambellara, Isola Vicentina, Malo, Marano Vicentino, Monte di Malo, Montebello Vicentino, Montecchio Maggiore, Montorso Vicentino, Nogarole Vicentino, San Vito di Leguzzano, Schio and Zermeghedo in the province of Vicenza.
The main vine variety used to obtain this wine, is Durella, for at least 85%, it descend from “Durasena” mentioned in the Charter of Costozza of 1290, a variety of white berry which name derives form the hardness and the resistance of its peel with a high whole acidity. Then, there can be also a maximum of 15% of the grapes of the variety Garganega, Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

DOC wines Monti Lessini, have a straw yellow colour, fruity smell and peculiar, dry taste with a strong body, also lively according to the tradition. There are three verieties: Monti Lessini White, Monti Lessini Pinot Noir and Monti lessini Passito.
The first has a straw yellow colour, more or less strong, fresh taste, sapid and harmonious. The type Monte Lessini Pinot Noir has an intense ruby red color with possible dark red shades and dry taste, full, pleasantly bitter. The type Monti Lessini Passito, instead, has a golden yellow, intense and fruity smell and pleasant or sweet and velvety taste.
All the types have a possible smell of wood given by the eventual preservation in wooden containers.

Pairings

Pairing and serving temperature can vary according to the type of wine. The type Monti Lessini white can be perfectly paired with delicate starters with fish, Carpaccio of fish and grilled shellfish. Whereas the type Monti Lessini Pinot Noir give its best when paired with the typical “Sopressa vicentina”, ham of Veneto, Piave, cornmeal mush, ravioli, preparation of red meat.
Of course, the wine Monti Lessini Passito is perfect when paired with raw milk cheese and fat or blue cheeses of medium seasoning, or as a wine to drink at the end of a meal.
